The Scholarship Program
Following the terms of the Will, the Trustees created The Isidore Schmeidler Scholarship Program, which has awarded thousands of dollars over the years to deserving graduates and has been a significant factor in enabling them to receive a college education. Unlike many other scholarship programs, The Isidore Schmeidler Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to selected students for each of their college years until graduation, subject to each student maintaining satisfactory grades under the rules established by the Trustees. The appropriate authorities at Atlantic City High School, Holy Spirit High School, Mainland Regional High School, Egg Harbor Township High School, Pleasantville High School and Absegami High School are advised each year by the Trustees to publish the existence of The Isidore Schmeidler Scholarship Fund among their students. Interested students are required to submit an application together with proof of financial need to the Fund. The Trustees review the applications and select those students who have demonstrated both academic aptitude and financial need. The selected students are then invited to be interviewed by the Trustees, after which the final selection is made and the students advised.
The deadline for submission of applications will be 7/15 of the given year.
The Charitable Grants Program
In addition to providing scholarship assistance, the Trustees of The Isidore Schmeidler Fund have been satisfying the other charitable requirements under Isidore Schmeidler’s Will. They have donated thousands of dollars to appropriate charitable organizations as well as to individual residents of Absecon Island who have demonstrated the needs set forth in the Will.
Eligibility for Undergraduate Scholarships
All applicants for scholarships from The Isidore Schmeidler Scholarship Fund must be residents of the Atlantic City vicinity inhabiting Atlantic City, Ventnor City, Margate City, Longport and/or the area known as Chelsea Heights and Ventnor Heights, Somers Point, Linwood, Egg Harbor Township, Pleasantville, Northfield, Galloway and Absecon. In addition, the applicant must have graduated from any of the following high schools: Atlantic City High, Holy Spirit High, Mainland Regional High, Egg Harbor Township High, Pleasantville High, Absegami High.
All applicants must demonstrate financial need and while The Isidore Schmeidler Scholarship Fund is not an academic achievement award, the applicant must nevertheless have demonstrated a satisfactory measure of academic aptitude.
All grants are issued directly to the student and may be used for tuition charges as well as for other necessary academic expenses such as transportation, books and lodging.
Please note scholarships are not available for masters or graduate studies.
Instructions for Applying
Please completely fill out one of the below linked applications. Attach both (1) your parents' most recent tax returns and (2) your high school transcripts (or undergraduate transcripts for renewal applicants).
